Landwind is back
Tiel, 06 April 2010
Tiel, 1st of April 2010 – Chinese car maker Landwind is returning to Europe after an absence of more than three years. The brand will return with a new model, the midi-MPV CV9, which will be available in the Netherlands and Belgium from this summer. The remainder of Europe will follow later. Landwind will also present an electrically powered version of the CV9 later on this year.
Landwind is part of the Chinese car manufacturer Jiangling Motors Holding, who build a million passenger cars a year under the Landwind name. They also build delivery vans and trucks under a variety of brand names.
LWMC (Landwind Motors Corporation) Europe B.V., established in Tiel in the Netherlands, will be responsible for the distribution throughout Europe. This company is managed by CEO Peter Bijvelds, who had originally introduced the brand in Europe midway though 2005 with a luxury four-wheel drive SUV. The sale of that model was halted after an ADAC crash test produced average results.
Bijvelds: “We are now making a strong comeback with the Landwind CV9, which has been revamped to meet the strictest European safety requirements thanks to a very substantial investment by strong shareholders, including the well-known Van der Valk hotel and catering family. We have the utmost of confidence that this model will be a success in Europe. It is a beautiful car with lots of space and attractive low prices starting at 14.495 Euros for the Dutch market. More models will follow in the future.”
Thorough preparation
The Landwind CV9 has been thoroughly prepared for its introduction into Europe. Technical improvements were implemented in collaboration with TÜV Rheinland, RDW, and TNO Automotive in Helmond. The car now has full European type approval, which means it can be introduced in 27 countries across the European Union.
The CV9 has been designed by the Italian design agency I.D.E.A., with engines and drivetrain developed in cooperation with F.E.V., a German manufacturer who also develops engines for other European manufacturers. The vehicle is fully equipped with features like airbags, ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), semi-automatic air conditioning, intelligent seatbelts, and parking sensors.
Market introduction
LWMC Europe B.V., the official import organisation, will start delivering the CV9 this summer to 35 dealers and a total of 45 sales locations.
Peter Bijvelds: ‘Jiangling Motors Holding has made serious investments in automation over the last years, facilitating a quick and flexible response to the demand. Our target is to deliver a total of 1.500 new cars in the first complete year.’
